Strikes
Record employee mistakes like the monthly strike sheet: types, manager, Strike 1, 2 and 3, and a status.
What it's for
Management → Strikes is a private record of mistakes: someone was lazy, didn't show up (AWOL), was late, was careless, faked their activity or messed up big time. It works like the monthly strike sheet: one row per person, their Strike 1, Strike 2 and Strike 3 for the month, the total and a status. The app counts and numbers the strikes for you, so the totals are always right.
A strike is only a record. Nothing happens automatically, not even at 3 strikes: it never changes anyone's pay, their status or anything else in the app, nobody gets a message, and employees never see their own strikes.
Before you start
- You're signed in as an Administrator. Your role needs See strikes to open the page and Record strikes to add or change anything. Managers can see strikes but not record them.
- The person has an employee profile. See Employees.
Steps
Open the tracker
In the menu on the left, click Management → Strikes. The title is Strikes and under it "A record of employee mistakes. It never changes pay or status, and employees do not see it."
Two tabs sit above the page: Month (the sheet for one month, where the page opens) and All strikes (every strike as a list).
Read the month
The Month tab shows this month to start with. Use the arrows on each side of the month box to go to the previous or next month, or pick a month in the box. You can't go past this month.
Three cards count the month's strikes that still count: Strikes in (the month, such as "Strikes in October 2026"), People with strikes and At 3 strikes (people with 3 or more, coloured when above 0).
The table has one row per person with a strike that month, A to Z:
- #, Employee (a link to their profile) and Manager (the manager of their latest strike that month).
- Strike 1, Strike 2 and Strike 3: each shows the manager who reported it (or "No manager"), the date and the types. A fourth strike or more shows as "+1 more" under Strike 3; the All strikes tab lists them all.
- Total: the number of strikes that count this month.
- Current status: 0 strikes – Active, Active – 1 strike, Active – 2 strikes or 3 strikes – review. Someone who is no longer working shows Inactive or Terminated instead.
Turn on Everyone to add every working employee, so the people with no strike show 0 strikes – Active, like the empty rows on the sheet.
Strikes are numbered by date (then by the order they were recorded), inside the month. Each month starts again from zero.
Record a strike
Click Record strike. A pop-up window opens:
- Employee: required; the list offers everyone who has not been terminated.
- Date (ET): today to start with. You cannot pick a day in the future.
- Manager: the manager who reported it. None to start with; the list offers the active people whose role can see strikes (managers and administrators). You still appear as the person who recorded it.
- Types: tick every type that applies, at least one: Lazy, AWOL, Late, Negligence, Activity Spoofer and Messed Up Big time.
- What happened: optional, up to 2,000 characters. Write the facts: when, what, who noticed.
You don't choose Strike 1, 2 or 3: the window says "Strike 1, 2 or 3 is worked out from the date: it counts the employee's strikes that month." Click Record strike.
Find a strike later
Click the All strikes tab. Four cards count the strikes that still count (they ignore the filters): Active strikes, This month, At 3 strikes (people at 3 or more this month) and People with strikes.
Above the list are a search box Search employee… and the checkbox Show voided. Both stay in the page address, like the tab and the month.
Correct a strike
On the All strikes tab, click Edit on the row, change what was wrong and click Save changes. The Edit strike window has no Employee field: to move a strike to someone else, void it and record a new one. Changing the date can change its number.
Take a strike back
On the All strikes tab, click Void on the row. The window Void strike says "The strike stays on record but no longer counts, and later strikes that month are renumbered." Type a Reason (at least 3 characters) and click Void strike.
Export the month
On the Month tab, click Export CSV. You get a spreadsheet file named after the month (such as
strikes-2026-10.csv) with the same columns as the sheet: #, Employee, Manager, then the
manager, date and type of Strike 1, 2 and 3, Total Strikes and Current Status. With
Everyone on, the file has everyone too.
Check the possible AWOL days
When the app finds a day that looks like a no-show, a Possible AWOL box shows at the top of the page: "Rostered in the last 14 days with no time off and no tracked Hubstaff time. Check before recording: nothing is recorded until you do."
A day is listed when the person was on the roster, had no approved time off and tracked 0 hours in Hubstaff that day. Only the last 14 days up to yesterday are checked, and only days Hubstaff has already sent in. Each line shows the person, the date and why, with two buttons:
- Record strike opens the record window with the person, the date and AWOL already filled in. Check the facts, add what happened and click Record strike.
- Dismiss hides the suggestion for good (message Suggestion dismissed.). Use it when there was a reason, for example a sick day nobody logged.
The box doesn't show when there is nothing to check.
What you should see
- After recording: a message at the bottom of the screen, Strike recorded., and the person in the month with the next strike number. After an edit: Strike updated. After a void: Strike voided.
- The All strikes columns are Date, Employee, Types, Reported by (the manager), Notes and Recorded by, with Edit and Void buttons on the rows that still count.
- A voided strike leaves the month and the list and stops counting. The strikes after it that month move up a number: void Strike 2 of three and Strike 3 becomes Strike 2. Tick Show voided to see it again, with a Voided badge and "Voided: the reason you typed" under the notes.
- A month with no strikes: No strikes in the month (such as "No strikes in October 2026"). On All strikes, with nothing recorded at all: No strikes recorded; when the search hides everything: No strikes match. All add "Strikes are a record only: they never change pay or status."
- Strikes recorded before the sheet types existed show their old type: Lateness shows as Late, No-show as AWOL and Quality as Negligence. Conduct, Policy breach and Other keep their names and are marked "(old type)" when you edit them; they are not offered for new strikes.
- The employee's own profile has a Strikes panel with This month (the count and status), Last 90 days and All time, and the list of their strikes. You can record, edit and void there too.
Test checklist
Good to know
You are testing on real data
The test app shares its data with the live app, and a strike can't be deleted. Record test strikes only on a made-up employee you created for testing (such as "Jane Example"), never on a real person, and void them when you're done.
3 strikes – review is a reminder for you to look at the case. The app never takes action by itself: any decision is yours, made outside the app.
A strike cannot be deleted, only voided, and the reason stays on the record. That is deliberate: the history of a decision is part of the record.
